The Doorway

One day I walked out the door Suitcase in my hand To a place I’ve been before Some faraway land I sat down at the bus stop Ticket in my hand Dawn breaking all'round me For me to understand It was a cold winter morning Bare trees against a dawning sky A sudden breeze moved us all Trees and birds and I alike I was lifted out of my thoughts By a screeching crow up high Drawing my attention to the doorway That appeared before my inner eye Suddenly I was filled with joy Because clearly I could see That there is another way Another way to be me Guarded by forces Larger than I Never truly alone Blessings in the sky Every time I pass that bus stop

I remember the cold winter air The breeze and the trees and the crow And the doorway that is always there. By Annemieke Borrias, Dec. 2019
